On May 9. 1948. in Titograd was held constitutive Assembly of
Montenegrin Shooting Federation. On that day, in Gymnasium, almost
only building that was not destroyed in the war, sports workers and
shooters from all parts of Montenegro have gathered. Besides
representatives of District Gymnastics Boards, on the Assembly were
also present prominent representatives from the State bodies and
public organizations of the Rebuplic, representatives from the
Yugoslav Pepole’s Army (JNA), athletes and sports workers from
Titograd. For the first President was elected Mr Blažo Kažanegra,
officer of JNA, and for the Secretary, Mr Dimo Dedić.
Although Montenegrin Shooting Federation was founded in 1948., the
roots of shooting sports, from a wider point of view, go in farther
past. Historical conditions when Montenegrin people had to fight for
the defence of their freedom, influenced them to highly appreciate
the weapons. In Montenegrin People’s Army existed deeply rooted
commitment for keeping the weapons, meaning that the house could
burn down, but gun never.
According to some information, firs competition for shooting from
gun, in Montenegro was held shortly before the wars for liberation
1876-1878., when first one bullet guns «Berdanke» were recieved- ,
and it was shooted in a plate on Obilića field in Cetinje.
Shooting, in sports terms, was developed in Montenegro only in
pre-war Yugoslavia. The regime planned to organise shooting squads
all over the country, even in Montenegro, and to keep them in the
service of their politics. However, in many of those squads of
advanced force, successfully confronted to that purpose of the
squad. Thanks to that, most of the members of those squads took
advantage of them and learned the shooting skill, which was useful
later during the war. Among them were also Đuro Čagorović and prof.
Đuro Pešić who were Champions of Zeta Regional Unit.
In first after-war years shooting sports was developed within
Yugoslav Gymnastics Association. First competitions were organised
for token ZREN (for the Republic forward), and great importance in
that period had working actions where thousands of young people were
trained in shooting skills.
In 1948. after foundation of Montenegrin Shootin Federation, shoting
sports was constituted as independent sports-public organization.
During 1948. and 1949. district shooting boards were formed all over
Montenegro, including 70 organizations with over 5.000 members.
At the beginning of the work of the Federation, and few years later,
conditions for development of the shooting sports were unfavourable.
Pepople were shooting from army weapons, mostly from trophy weapons,
in limited number. It was lacking of ammunition, no arranged
shooting grounds, shooting sports shared the destiny of the country
in total, which attempted to overcome economic difficulties. Despite
those difficulties, shooting sport was constantly developing, thanks
to common enthusiasm and consciousness that the effort for
qualifying the citizens and youth should not be spared for the
defence of hardly gained liberty.

First Rebublic Competition was held in August 1948. at the field
close to river Tara, in Kolašin. First winners were Marta Pejović
and Tomaš Vučinić from Titograd. Same year, Montenegrin National
Team participated on the first Championship of Yugoslavia, where
Montenegrin shooters Vlado Mihailović and Darinka Rakočević had good
results in shooting from the small-calibre gun, Tomaš Vučinić in
shooting from army gun and Branko Jovović in shooting from the
revolver.
Introduction of air gun in 1956. was of the great importance for the
development of the shooting sports, as well as building of the
Shooting-ground in Cetinje and Shooting House in Podgorica in 1957.
Number of members and organizations increased every year until 1980.
So, in 1986. there were 251 organizations in the Republic with, all
together 37.750 members. In last years, from comprehensible reasons,
difficult financial situation and events in the neighbour countries,
brought to significant decrease of organizations and members.
Despite all of that, we managed to keep relative necessary large
membership in the national program, while in the international
program we have relatively small number of shooters, which is
understandable, because the necessary equipment for shooters for
this program is very expensive.
In their history, Montenegrin shooters achieved signifficant
results, won over 100 first places on the Championships of
Yugoslavia, held Yugoslav records, were members of the National
Team, and some of them were potential candidates for the Olympic
Games. Besides already mentioned shooters, we will include also:

the Edict of the President of SFRY, Josip Broz Tito.
In its history, the Shooting Federation of Montenegro organised
several big competitions, in 1981. on the newly built
shooting-ground in Titograd was held European Championship for
shooting from small calibre weapons. In that period, it was the most
beautiful building of this kind in Europe. Championship lasted for
10 days, adn almost all Europena National Teams participated in it,
with 1.000 competitors. By that time, it was the most successfull
European Championship, because 9 World and 11 European records were
set. Shooting workers from Montenegro, back than showed that thez
are capable of organizing big events of this kind. In that time, it
was the biggest ever sports manifestation organized in Montenegro.
It is interesting to mention that three of those record set in 1981.

air weapons, where our shooters achieved extraordinary results, and
shooting workres from Montenegro received tributes from all

been famous for its cooperation with shooters from other Republics
and other States. Previously, it was cooperation and meetings with
the Bosnia and Herzegoviona National Team, on Tjentište, Tournament
of the Republics and Provinces, known as Adriatic Cup, where almost
all major cities from the SFRY seaside participated. Today, those
are traditional friendly meetings with Serbia, which last for over
30 years, and meetings with Italian Province Puglia.

Shooting sports gathers all categories and generations of the
population, and due to successfull spreading of its fundamentals,
shooting sports represents our coutry with great success on European
and International Competiotions and Olympic Games. For all these
times, the Shooting Federation of Montenegro was one of the most
important factors for development of the shooting sports in
Yugoslavia. According to some data, through the Shooting
organization of Montenegro has passed more than 350.000 shooters,
from its foundation.
We have to mention great support we received all these years from
the Army and Ministry of Interior, and the Government of Montenegro
and some of its Ministries, first of all Ministry of Sports, who
have disinterestedly supported us during the organization of
important sports events in Montenegro. In last few years, shooters
from Montenegro achieved extraordinary results, first of all due to
good work of the Shooting Federation of Montenegro and few Clubs
(«Centar» - Podgorica, «Bratogošt» - Nikšić, «Mornar» - Kumbor etc.)
who regularly bring highest ornaments from various competitions. For
example, in 2002. they won 8 titles of the State Champions, which is
the biggest success in the History of the Shooting Federation of
Montenegro. Our teams and individuals are regualrly among candidates
chosen for most successfull teams, individuals and perspective
athletes in Montenegro. We have to mention that the work of the
Executive Committee of the SFMNE has significantly improved, thanks
to some of its members, first of all the President of the SFMNE,
Predrag-Bato Stanojević, who disinterestedly pleads in for the
progress of this sport in Montenegro.
Shooting organization has relatively large number of quality
shooters, like Nikola Šaranović, Aleksandar Kostić and others, who
are permanent members of the Nationa Team, state record holders and
most serious candidates for participation in the Olympic Games in
2008. If we could satisfy nedds for the weapons and ammunition for
International program, we can expect in the future, preak-through of
Montenegrin shooting sports to the top of European and International
shooting sports. Task of the SFMNE is to keep teh necessary large
membership in the national program in the future, and special
attention should be paid to the development of the shooting sports
in international program.
At the end, we can say that the biggest contribution to development
of the shooting organization, its large membership and qualitz, was
given by the army of disinterested enthusiasts, among shooters and
socially-sports workers. The results of the work and development of
our organization, commit us to keep the shooting organization of
Montenegro in conditions of serious social and economic crisis.
In last 5 years, shooters from Montenegro won 20 titles of State
Champions and Cup winners.
During the World Championship in Zagreb, from 28. to 30. July 2006.,
Administrative Council held a Session whre they considered the
request from the Shooting Federation of Montenegro for memebrship
into ISSF, and where the SFMNE was accepted as affiliated member of
the ISSF, and when MOC becomes full-time member of the IOC, SFMNE,
by automatism, will become full-time member of the International
Shooting Federation. At the General Assembly of the ISSF, SFMNE had
the right to vote.
