Candidature of Alexandria for Mediterranean Games 2017 presented to
MOC
President
of Egyptian Olympic Committee, Mahmout Ahmed Ali and his associates
presented candidature of Alexandria for the Mediterranean Games 2017
to the president of Montenegrin Olympic Committee Dušan Simonović
and his coworkers.
Alexandria candidate for organization of the Mediterranean Games
2017. President of Egyptian Olympic Committee, Mahmout Ahmed Ali,
with two members of National Council for Sport and the President of
the International Handball Federation, Hassan Moustafa, visited
yesterday president of Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan
Simonović and his colleagues in order to present the candidature.
The impression is awesome.
- Purpose of our visit is to, shortly present you candidature of
Alexandria for organization of the Mediterranean Game. Most of the
capacities are ready, but we planned to additional ones in order to
satisfy needs for organization of such an event. It is our pleasure
to invite the President of Montenegrin Olympic Committee to visit
Alexandria and see our capacities and ensure what we have to offer.
And I would like to thank you for accepting this meeting, said
President Ali.
President
of MOC, Simonović Said it was his pleasure to have welcomed the
first man of the Egyptian Olympic Committee with his colleagues in
Montenegro.
- I know very well the history and culture of my people including
old cultures such as Egypt. I am sure that your people have energy
which I had an opportunity to see personally, said Simonović. – You
were old and great culture even for the great old Rome. Alexandria
owns one of the Seven Wonders of the World, isn’t that
recommendation enough? You have everything that is necessary to
organize great Games such as Mediterranean. At the end, I would like
to tell you that you spoke to friends and that you can always rely
on us, as we can rely on you. If eighty million Egyptians wants it,
it is a sign that you can organize such great event. And what is
greater from sport, and Olympism is, I am assured that in this
moment you need support.

What does Egypt has to offer? Sharaf Emil, Manager of the Commission
for Candidature for Mediterranean Games, informed the present that
the budget Has already been provided and comparing to other
candidatures it is also the biggest.
- Alexandria deserves to be the host of such an great event. It is
second largest city with five million inhabitants. It has
characteristic metropolis spirit with mixture of different
influences and special sense for sport. I assure you that we are
capable to organize Mediterranean Games. Why? Because our people
support us, young people too, 27 National sport Federations and the
Olympic Committee, said Sharaf. We also thinks that it is high time,
after 60 years, to bring back the Games to where they began.
So far a lot has been done – 31 facilities have been finished.
- We have football stadium with capacity of 80 thousand places, and
recently was set record in watching finals of the WC up to 20 years.
We have finished 65 percent of the facilities that will be in within
the Borg El Arab complex. Only five minutes away from the Village,
and eight from the airport. In case they get the organization of the
Games 2017, athletes will compete in 29 sports including three
paraolympic sports. .
Eighty million of Egyptians asks for your support for organization
of the Mediterranean Games, was the last message from the Egyptian
guests.
