OLYMPIC CARAVAN STARTED FROM CETINJE. EVENT IN THE HONOR OF FORTH COMING OLYMPIC GAMES AND FIRST PARTICIPATION OF MONTENEGRO ON THIS BIGGEST WORLD SPORT EVENT

A place from where was headed towards great victories

Beautiful spring day on Sunday, 20th April was great scenography for the first phase of the Olympic caravan, sport-amusing event organised by the Montenegrin Olympic Committee in cooperation with Athletic Federation of Montenegro and host municipalities in honor of the Olympic Games and first Montenegrin participation in it.

Around 500 elementary school pupils gathered at King Nikola’s Square to wish our Olympians successful participation in Beijing next August. Joy and liveliness provided by this youth marked the first phase of the Olympic caravan, promising that also in other municipalities it will go through, including closing one to be held in Podgorica on 13th July, it will be held with same spirit and messages.
Much before start of the program and planned 800 m race, the Square was crowded with children and other visitors. Milan Madžgalj, Secretary General of the Athletic Federation of Montenegro, gave t-shirts to all participants of the race.

After introduction given by famous Montenegrin actress Ivona Čović and some important information about history of the Olympic Games, Mayor of Cetinje, Milo Janković addressed the present.

"We are starting from a place where from was always started towards big victories. We hope it will be the same this time", said Janković and wished that at least some of the present childern become part of new Montenegrin Olympic generation. "I hope that on this same place we will meet our Olympians when they return from Beijing", said the first man of Montenegrin old capital.

When legend of Montenegrin volleyball and winner of the golden Olympic medal in Sydney 2000. Igor Vušurović showed on stage, there was loud aplause. "It is not by chance that caravan leaves from this place. All big things in Montenegro started here, in this town of heroes, which can become also town of sport heroes", said Vušurović. He invited people from Cetinje to support with full heart our representatives in Beijing, in same way they support Đukanović or Kapisoda.

People at the Square were than greeted by our two Olympians who will represent us in Beijing, boxer Milorad Gajović and athlete Milena Milašević. "Everything is easier with moto 'Faster, higher, stronger", said Gajović, who always stresses that he will not only walk through Beijing, but fight for medal with all strenghts. Milena said that her sport career begun just in some similar event like this in Cetinje. "Believe in yourselves and be wilful", she said to the youngest in Cetinje.

Afterwards, artistic association "Njegoš" from Cetinje performed Montenegrin folk dances on the stage.

"This is very important year for Montenegrin sport. Olympic games are not just nice opportunity for our athletes to compete in it, but for all our citizens who will have motive to watch them this year with special attention and excitement", said Božidar Ivanović, legendary chess player from Cetinje, also Vice president of the MOC.

Elementary school pupis then went to the Start, which was placed infront of the President’s residency. Both races, male and female, went very well, with no injured participants. They were also fair, followed by loud support of friends.

First place in female competition won Dragana Đurišić, second Anđela Mudreša, and third Vesna Rudović, all three from Elementary school "Njegoš".

Winner among boys was Dragan Pešić (ES "Njegoš"), second was Nikola Drecun ("Lovćenski partizanski odred"), and third Damir Gaši, also student of ES "Njegoš". Beside medals and certificates, winners got bicycles, gift from Municipality Cetinje, which were delivered to them by Vice president of Municipal assembly of Cetinje, Boris Mašanović. Medals for the first, second and third place were delivered by Đorđije Kustudić, Secretary General of the MOC. Certificates were delivered to all those place until tenth position.

After races and delivering medals, certificates and presents, amusiement program continued by concerts of Anja Mašanović, Marija Božović and group "Perper".
Caravan continues its trip every Sunday except for the next one, and ends on 13th July. It will also visit Bijelo Polje, Rožaje, Kolašin, Nikšić, Berane, Kotor and Tivat, Budva, Ulcinj, Herceg Novi, Bar, and closing event, as we said, will be held in Podgorica on 13th July.
